We don’t recommend sealing natural stone with a film-forming finish. If you seal a stone with a product that doesn’t breathe, problems can occur later.
At Personal Touch Service Solutions, we use products that impregnate the stone. Consider it a Scotchgard treatment for natural stone, like you would put on fabrics. This is a non-film-forming protection that allows liquids to bead on the surface so that you can wipe them up before a stain has a chance to take place.
Natural stone needs to breathe, or it can trap moisture inside. With an impregnator, you’re using a product that is vapor permeable, and it will not take away from the appearance of your natural stone by giving it a plastic film the way polymers will.
After the stone has been thoroughly cleaned, an impregnator is applied by the craftsman and buffed. It will not change the appearance of your natural stone.

No. It’s a penetrating product that causes liquids to bead on the surface, without forming a finish or altering the appearance of the stone.
You can, but if the product contains any acrylics or polymers, once it’s applied, if it becomes damaged, it will have to be stripped off before another coat can be reapplied.
Not necessarily. The polymer film used in commercial sealers is softer than stone, and will scratch and dull more readily than the natural stone would on its own.
If you have a calcium-based stone—like marble, travertine, or terrazzo—and you drop lemon juice or vinegar on it, the stone is extremely sensitive to acids. Even if you wipe it up quickly, it will probably leave a dull mark. The only alternative is a polymer film over the stone, which will scratch even more easily than the stone itself scratches and dulls. That’s why we don’t recommend a film-forming finish that keeps the stone from breathing.
