Natural stone surfaces like marble, travertine, granite, and terrazzo are often chosen not only for their beauty, but for their remarkable durability. One of the greatest advantages of natural stone is that it’s a renewable surface—capable of being cleaned, restored, and polished to maintain its appearance for decades. With proper care, these materials can last the full life of a home, offering timeless elegance in floors, countertops, showers, and more.

At Personal Touch Service Solutions, we’ve spent over 27 years working with all types of natural stone, developing our techniques through hands-on experience in both residential and commercial spaces. While do-it-yourself kits exist, they rarely achieve the like-new results we can deliver. Professional restoration requires the right tools, product knowledge, and a trained eye for each surface’s needs. Whether it’s stain removal, repolishing, or sealing with a breathable impregnator, we provide expert-level care that brings out the lasting beauty of your stone—and keeps it shining for years to come.

FAQs

  • My cleaner made a mistake and used vinegar to clean my marble. What can I do about the dull surface?

Unfortunately, strong like a rock maybe true but it stops short of acid resistance.  Marble can experience immediate etching with vinegar, lemon juice, many toilet bowl cleaners, and hard water removers.  At Personal Touch we are able to hone and re-polish those areas and restore them to look great again.

  • I just bought new bar stools, do I need to protect my travertine?

Yes, we recommend chair tabs made of a durable carpet like material.  Marble and travertine are relatively soft stones and abrasion from chairs needs to have protection

  • What do I do about my hard water stains on my granite countertop around my fixtures?

Luckily granite is acid resistant and you are able to safely use a hard water stain remover or nylon scrubby pad.

Protect Your Investment with Proper Stone Care

Natural stone is a timeless, durable feature in any property—but like any investment, it requires thoughtful care to maintain its beauty and value. Regular maintenance and professional treatment help prevent staining, wear, and surface damage—ensuring your stone lasts for decades and continues to enhance the appearance and worth of your space.

Key Elements of Smart Stone Maintenance

  • Even acid-resistant stones like granite and slate benefit from impregnators, which help prevent staining while preserving the stone’s natural look.
  • Softer stones like marble, travertine, and limestone need regular maintenance and breathable sealers that protect without creating a surface film.
  • Stains can be treated using professional poultices, which draw out discoloration from deep within the stone’s pores.
  • In shower environments, Personal Touch can remove marble gloss finishes to minimize water spotting and maintain a clean, natural appearance.
  • Scheduled care prevents damage before it starts, helping your stone remain both functional and beautiful for years to come.
